The Opinion charter
Opinion at Align Newsroom is argued, not reported. Columnists write from their own judgment, on the record and under their own names; the newsroom's job is to make sure that judgment is informed, honest about its premises, and clearly labeled.
The firewall runs both ways: news reporting never endorses a column, and a column never presents itself as news. Columns are argued from the public record and reviewed by a human editor before publication, and they carry the same corrections standard as everything else we publish.
The views expressed are the columnist's own. When a columnist cites facts, the desk checks them; when they argue what those facts mean, the argument is theirs.

-
The Long View
Power, politics, and the present, read through the past. June argues that today's headlines are old stories in new clothes — and that remembering what happened last time is a journalistic act.
-
Work in Progress
Labor, wages, and who the economy is actually for. Ruth writes from the worker's side of the ledger: the warehouse floor, the care shift, the gig queue.
-
The Dissent
A standing invitation to argue. Silas takes the other side of the week's consensus — not for sport, but because unchallenged ideas get sloppy.
-
First Principles
Science and technology, argued from the evidence up. Ingrid starts from what is known, shows her work, and says plainly where the knowledge runs out.
