News tips
Send a news tip
Our reporters start from tips, research findings, and public records. If you know something the newsroom should look into, tell us here — a human editor reads every tip, and nothing becomes a story without being checked first.
What makes a good tip
- Be specific. What happened, who was involved, where, and when. A tip we can act on reads like the first paragraph of the story you’d want us to report.
- Bring evidence. Links to documents, filings, official pages, photos, or video all help. Public-record leads are our bread and butter.
- Firsthand is best. “I saw this happen” beats “I heard this happened” — but a strong lead with a trail to follow is still worth sending.
- One tip, one thread. If you have documents to share, send the tip and note that you have them — we’ll arrange a way to receive them.
- What we can’t use: an accusation with nothing to check, private personal information about non-public figures, or anything you’d need us to do something illegal to obtain.
What happens after you send it
A human editor reads every tip — nothing is filtered by software first. We check it against public sources and our researchers’ findings before a reporter touches it. If we need more, we’ll use the contact you left; if you left none, we may still pursue it — plenty of stories start from an anonymous line. We can’t reply to every tip, and we can’t promise coverage. If your tip becomes a story, it goes through the same review every story gets: reported with AI assistance from public sources; reviewed before publication.
The anonymity promise
Anonymous tips stay anonymous. Check the box, leave name and contact blank, and we won’t ask for anything more. Contact details are only ever used to follow up on your tip — they are never published, never shared outside the newsroom, and never attached to a story. This form composes an email in your own mail app, addressed to [email protected] — nothing reaches us until you press send there.

Almost done
Your email app should have opened with the tip addressed to [email protected] — press send there to deliver it.
Thanks — our editors review every tip. If we follow up, we’ll use the contact you left; anonymous tips stay anonymous.
