The Newsroom

Privacy policy

Effective October 17, 2026. Short version: we collect almost nothing, we sell nothing, and everything the site remembers about you lives in your own browser.

What we collect

Feedback widget (align-feedback): when you rate a story or are shown an experiment variant, the widget stores a random, opaque device identifier in your browser’s localStorage, along with your ratings and which variant you saw. It collects no name, email, or account — the identifier is random and means nothing outside this site.

Newsletter signups: your email address. Right now signups are captured in your browser until the mailer is wired — nothing leaves your device yet.

Reader preferences: your reader key and the beats and trackers you follow — stored in your browser only.

What we don’t do

We sell nothing. We run no third-party analytics and no third-party trackers — the site’s scripts are first-party. We set no cookies; preferences live in localStorage, which you can clear at any time in your browser settings.

When things change

This policy will be updated before any backend mailer or account system goes live. The effective date at the top always reflects the current version.
