The Count

Every network reports the same pipeline's numbers. We don't. Align Newsroom counts the 2026 midterms straight from county registrars and Secretaries of State — unofficial tallies, every figure carrying its source and as-of time. No invented numbers, ever.

The Map Room

Nine battleground Senate races plus California's ballot measures — the states this desk counts on election night. States color red / blue only when verified numbers exist and the leading candidate's party is known — never from polls, never projected. Tap a state for its county map.

Race Cards

Every card shows its sources with as-of times. A race with no verified numbers shows no verified numbers yet — never a zero, never an estimate dressed as a count.

Counting Methodology

A second count. On the record. On election night every network reports vote totals bought from the same pipeline. Align Newsroom runs its own count, straight from the official sources — county registrars and Secretaries of State — with every number carrying its source and as-of time.

  1. Independent. Our numbers are compiled by our own desk from the same public sources any newsroom can check. We don't republish anyone's feed. Wire services, networks and prediction markets are reference-only — they never supply a published vote number.
  2. Sourced. Every figure carries the official source name, the exact source URL, and the source's as-of timestamp. If a total changes, the old number, the new number and the source are all on the record.
  3. Timestamped. You see when each figure was recorded — because on election night, when a number appeared matters as much as the number.
  4. Gated. No provenance, no publish. Vote totals never decrease — a decrease holds the race for human review. When two independent official sources disagree, both are shown side-by-side, flagged DISCREPANCY, never resolved by voting.
  5. No black box, no projections. We show the math behind every call our board makes. In v1 the newsroom does not project winners — "called" appears only when an official source marks certification.
  6. Corrections are public. Append-only, shown under the affected race. History is never silently overwritten.

Align Newsroom is an independent newsroom. This count is unofficial by definition — final certified results come from each state's canvass. We are not a government agency and do not present election results as official.
